Two ltd stock vintages of Angélus are currently available. For the 2015, the blend consisted of 62% Merlot and 38% Cabernet Franc. A sundrenched vintage, yielding weight and power in the wines without being overripe. A particularly good year for Cabernet Franc, which characteristically makes up more of the wine than you might expect from the right-bank.
"The 2015 Angélus has a calm, cool and collected bouquet of tightly wound black fruit that unfurls with aeration to reveal blackberry, gravel and pencil box notes; classic, almost Left Bank in style, and delivered with real panache. The palate is exquisitely balanced with ne but grippy tannin, layers of black and red fruit tinged with vanilla and perfect acidity. The harmonious, sensual finish is very alluring. What a stunning 2015 this is going to be!" Neal Martin, Vinous
The 2011 meanwhile, was a vintage requiring careful canopy management and attentive viticulture. The wine has taken time to improve in bottle, but is on an upward trajectory since release. Very fine.
"The 2011 Angélus has a lovely bouquet with ample red fruit, fireside hearth/ash and a touch of Earl Grey. Fine definition and lift here. The palate is very well balanced with supple tannins, fine bead of acidity, quite sensual for the growing season with a judicious plushness and a sense of breeding on the finish. Superb." Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting. Neal Martin, Vinous
