The 2018 vintage has clearly stamped its imprint over Jane’s wines as there is greater power, deeper fruit and gravitas allied to the usual charm and definition. Her decision to include 30% whole bunches (as opposed to none last year) has given the wines extra depth and complexity to balance the ripe fruit. 2018 began with a warm spring and budburst in early April. The entire vintage continued ahead of schedule, with flowering in mid-June followed by a rapid fruit set. Ripening continued at a good pace, with alternating warm temperatures and rainfall during August. The harvest began at the end of August, around two weeks earlier than average. The grapes were in exceptional health and required virtually no sorting. Winemakers across Burgundy were very enthusiastic about the 2018 crop, with the fruit in peak health and the region back to producing good quantities of quality fruit, in comparison to the difficult harvests of recent years. Small parcels of low-yielding fruit were hand picked and 100% destemmed. Indigenous yeast fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks where a combination of gentle pump overs and punch downs were employed as needed. The wine was matured in 100% French oak barriques, 17% of which were new. The wine was racked once to tank before bottling unfined and unfiltered during the first week of December. ABV 14%
