The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru has a lovely nose with wild peach, orange pith and light apricot notes complemented by just a whiff of puff pastry. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity necessary to cut though what is a rich Les Referts with real weight and dimension on the finish. Good length. The grapes are picked by hand at the end of September, with very strict selection. In the vinification cellar, after extremely careful pressing of the grapes, the juice is subjected to a spontaneous alcoholic fermentation with wild (grape-specific) yeasts for three weeks under temperature control at 19°C. The young wine is then traversed on oak barriques, of which 30% is renewed annually, for malolactic fermentation and aging in the groin. After about 10 months, the wine is bottled after any clarification and very light filtering. ABV 13%
