Frequently Asked Questions

Buying Imported Wines in South Africa

How are your imported wines transported to South Africa?

All our international wines are imported via 100% temperature-controlled reefers (refrigerated containers) and stored in a climate-conditioned warehouse. This continuous cold chain ensures that delicate International vintages never suffer from heat damage or thermal shock during transit across the equator, preserving their exact flavour profile.

Where do you deliver imported wines in South Africa, and how much does it cost?

We offer nationwide temperature-controlled door-to-door delivery across South Africa, with free shipping on orders over R6,000. For orders below R6,000, we charge a flat-rate shipping fee of R215. Delivery takes 2 to 3 business days in major metropolitan areas like Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban, and up to 5 business days for regional outlying areas.

The imported wine catalogue is huge and I dont know where to start! Can someone help guide me?

Yes, most definitely. It is one of our favourite parts of the job - advising our buyers on exciting imported wines to suit your preferences, palates and budget. Speak to a human straight away, by calling the office on +27 21 855 5528 or emailing imports@radforddale.com - ask for Tom!

Are your international wines authenticated?

Yes, every bottle in our catalog is 100% authenticated and sourced directly from the estate, official negociants, or certified international distributors. We strictly avoid grey-market imports. Each bottle retains its original back label, customs clearance documentation, and strip stamps where applicable, ensuring absolute provenance for fine wine collectors.

What are the most popular imported wine regions available?

Our imported portfolio focuses heavily on the world's most iconic wine-producing regions, including:

  • France: Classic Bordeaux blends, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Alsace the Loire and Grower Champagne.
  • Australia: Syrahs and Chardonnay from the Barossa, Eden Valley, and more.
  • New Zealand: Cool climate Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays from Martinborough, Marlborough and the rest.
  • USA: Napa, Oregon and northern California are all represented in our collection.

RADFORD DALE IMPORTS offers South Africans a selection of over 1000 imported wines from around 120 global producers, all available to order online. It is the fine wine arm of the innovative Stellenbosch & Elgin-based RADFORD DALE winery. For over two decades, Radford Dale Imports has imported into South Africa wines from like-minded producers from some of the finest vineyards of the world, many of whom have been life-long friends of founder Alex Dale.

Typically, Β the selection is composed principally of artisanal growers and small producers, specialists in their sites, with only a small handful of larger but philosophically inspirational producers.

There is a common thread between the producers and the wines of the RADFORD DALE IMPORTS selection, linking the finest proponents of a given appellation with those of neighbouring and far-flung regions alike, all driven by the love of wines of balance and of provenance.
