Saumur Clos Romans

One of the great Chenin's in the world of wine from Thierry Germain. Bone-dry with an arrow like acidity in youth and bags of tension, it's a Chenin built for the long haul. The 2021 is our first intake into South Africa, following a tasting of older releases at the domaine in July 2024. We had to bag what we could, resulting in just 12 btls.

The vines here are situated in the walled ('clos') enclave of an ancient priory, with 30cm of sandy clay over limestone. Germain acquired the site in 2007 and has been gradually replanting at high density. He employs 'massal selection' when planting, taking cuttings from the most desirable vines in the vineyard to establish new vines.
