Domaine Jean-François Ganevat

The Ganevat family have been farming from the southern hamlet of La Combe in Rotalier since 1650, with Jean-François launching the domain label in 1998 after returning from a spell in Burgundy. From the outset, he embraced progressive biodynamic farming, vinifying a dazzling array of micro-parcels individually to showcase exact terroir expression.

Despite an unpredictable, mountain influenced climate making it very difficult and economically challenging to farm here without chemical treatments, the region is home to the highest concentration of organic (35%) and biodynamic (8%) vignerons in France. Ganevat's influence is at the core of the modern generation.

In 2013, to mitigate the risk of devastating frost and low yields, Jean-François launched a négoce label with his sister Anne: Anne et Jean-François Ganevat. Sourcing organic fruit beyond their estate holdings and regional borders, this range features everything from old-vine Alsatian Riesling (Le Courage) to expressive blends combining Beaujolais Gamay with indigenous Jura varieties (Madelon Rouge).
