The 'Terroir' series from Monmarthe, are a set of limited and exciting Champagne from single, named vineyards, and bottled as a single vintage.
'Le Mont Joyeux' is produced from a 50 year old vineyard of Chardonnay, with a northeast exposure. The base wine undergoes fermentation in oak vessels, before second fermentation in bottle, where it rests on the fine lees for a minimum of 6 years.
It's a remarkable wine today. Youthful in colour and expression, whilst the palate is crystalline and taut. If it were not a sparkling wine, this would be a smart still Chardonnay!Β
It's also remarkable value at this quality tier.
Less than 5,000 btls produced annually.
