Sancerre Blanc 'Les Romains'

'Les Romains' is among the first single vineyard bottling of Vacheron, on a south facing slope on pure flint (silex) soils, rich in fossilised material. The vines here are 40+ years age, with roots deep into the soil.

As with all the vineyard bottlings of Vacheron, they pick at full ripeness, and keep the vinification consistent to highlight particularities of terroir. Fermentation and maturation in large, upright oak vats.  

It's a particular rounded expression of Sauvignon on entry, kept braced by the flinty soils, and a sinewy length. Beautifully judged.
