Domaine Vacheron

Situated in the hilltop town of Sancerre, tucked away among the narrow, windy streets, Vacheron require some seeking out. But the rewards in doing so are great.

Today, cousins Jean-Laurent and Jean-Dominique are producing the top wines of the region. They remain family-owned, and are pioneers for the region in placing emphasis on individual sites through their single vineyard bottlings. An ethos drawing comparisons to Vacheron's other great love, Burgundy.

Among the slopes to the east of the Sancerre appellation, Vacheron own old vines on some of the best sites;

  • Les Romains (flint)
  • Le Paradis (limestone based)
  • Chambrates (limestone and clay)

The domaine Sancerre Blanc is a blend of parcels (limestone 45%, flint 45% and 10% marl) and a brilliant entry into the range.

Vacheron are also pioneers of organic and biodynamic farming practices in Sancerre, and have sympathetically extended and modernised the winery behind the period urban facade. This includes a new, dedicated cellar for red wine (Pinot Noir). Not to be overlooked, the Pinot Noir of Vacheron are age worthy and delicate.
